A New Approach for Seismic Damage Detection Based on Results of Pushover Analysis and Modal Based Damage Index

The diagnosis of the location structural damage and its extent after an earthquake using numerical methods is one ongoing research topics. After occurrence in a structure reduction stiffness, dynamic characteristics change, therefore, assessing changes can be used as indicator for detecting damage. In this article, advanced technique called Direct Stiffness Calculation (DSC) new index based on flexural stiffness variations (SVI) are utilized detection structures. Initially, proposed examined steel beam with known specifications. Then, reinforced concrete moment frame modeled, extracting characteristics, it subjected to pushover analysis create scenario without direct intervention. Based results, plastic hinge formation at both ends selected probable floor. By modal information damaged calculating SVI beams floors, determined that accurately significantly distinguish only by knowing first mode sufficient magnification compared other points. Furthermore, results demonstrate method, possible determine even intact solely structure.
